Ыставка Bexpo
Dates: 29/11/2024 - 17/12/2024 Moscow, Russia Gallery: CCI FABRIKA Curator: Alfredo Arévalo

“Ыставка Bexpo” was the first Bexpo in Moscow. “Expo” means 'exhibition' in Spanish. Bexpo is an exhibition with “B” at the beginning, which is the name given to exhibitions curated by a community of artists and curators from Mexico City, founded by Fernando Gress, also known as Poniboy.

Bexpo is one of the most dynamic sectors of the Mexican contemporary art scene. It explores themes related to post-internet culture, video games, anime and memes. Their works make reference to life as seen through the screen and are presented as a materialization of this hyperreality.

As one of Bexpo's first international exhibitions after recently exhibiting in Germany, the screen acts this time as a metaphor for the connection between artists, as a way of exchanging images, ideas or video games across borders. This idea was reflected in the central screen, where we placed a modified version of the game Doom, created by the artist Clutch. The screen is an international multiplayer game that allowed artists from Mexico to play directly with visitors to the exhibition or with any internaut who wished to do so.

Another object, the Otaco Installation, also demonstrates the artists' attempt to transcend local borders by sharing experiences from the art scenes of Mexico and Peru and their collaborations. In this work, the artists document the otaku subculture in Latin America.

Peruvian artists and friends from Costa Rica such as Anthony Robinson and Ardelia Istarú who have recently collaborated with Bexpo artists have also been invited to the exhibition. In addition, the exhibition was open to any artist who wanted to participate. Through an open call on the internet, artists could send their images, which were printed and these web materializations invaded the physical space of the exhibition.
